Make Your OVFF Room Reservations as Early as Possible

This year's OVFF falls on the same weekend that OSU has a home football game. Ohio State University football fans are very serious about their team, and tend to fill up the area hotels on weekends with home games.

As if the above isn't bad enough, this same weekend is one of the weekends of the Quarterhorse Congress, which is far worse than a home football game. The Quarterhorse people take every, and we mean every, hotel room in the city.

With this combination of events, it is critical that you make your reservation as early as possible; if you don't, you may not be able to find a hotel room anywhere in the city.

Update: (July 20, 2006)

The Reservations Desk at the hotel tells me that OVFF participants have, so far, reserved 165 out of the 240 blocked room nights. This leaves 75 room nights (not 75 rooms). She tells me that, as of this morning, they only have about 70 room nights available over the period October 18-23. This means that it is critical that you get your room reservations in very soon, or you may be sleeping in your car.

To make your room reservations, call 866-372-5566 or 614-764-2200.

When calling to make reservations, please use the full name for the convention ("Ohio Valley Filk Fest"), as not all of the people working the reservation desk know the acronym.

It is best to call the hotel during business hours. After 5pm ET, the phone number is forwarded to a national reservation line that may not honor, or be aware of, the special OVFF rate.

Please note that though our room block closes on September 28, 2006, there is no guarentee that rooms will be available up to that date once our room block is full. Also, be sure to specify whether you want smoking or non-smoking (or don't care), and whether you want a king or two queen beds.

Hotel Room Blocking

We would like the rooms around the area with the con suite (guest rooms 167, 169, 171 & 173) to be filled with OVFF members so that we can make noise in that area later in the evening. Note that these guest rooms are smoking rooms. Experience over the past few years is that these rooms are very smoky. If you are willing to take one of these rooms, please request a room from that range when you place your reservation.

Despite the name room block, the hotel will not block all rooms in one area. They promise that they will do their best to honor individual requests for particular rooms.

Directions and Transportation

Located in Dublin on I-270 at exit 17A. Follow State Route 161 until you reach Frantz Road. Turn South on Frantz Road to first traffic light (Metro Place North). Turn right and the hotel is located 1/4 mile on Metro Place North and is visible from Interstate 270. See the Clarion Dublin Hotel's directions page for more detailed information.

The Clarion Dublin does not provide an airport shuttle. However, there is an independent airport shuttle service to the Dublin area. To reserve space on the shuttle, phone 614-868-8888. You may also wish to contact the hotel for taxi information. Apparently one of the taxi companies has a flat fare from the airport ito the hotel that was, in 2005, only $33, which was cheaper than the shuttle.
