Special Events Planned for OVFF
Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Where other conventions have opening ceremonies, OVFF has the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. It's the official opening of OVFF and begins at 7PM on Friday evening. At the tea party, you will be able to enjoy tea, along with a number of other beverages and pastries.
Hats are compulsory. If you don't have one, you will select one at the door from the stable of chapeaus maintained by the convention, or one will be assigned to you.
Don't make us choose your hat. You may not like it.
Pegasus Awards Banquet
Every year, the Ohio Valley Filk Fest presents the Pegasus Award for Excellence in Filking. The nominations are made by filkers around the world, and voting takes place between the end of the World Science Fiction Convention and OVFF each year. The final ballots are cast by OVFF attendees after the Pegasus Nominees Concert on Friday night (the first night of the convention.)
The Pegasus Awards are then presented at a banquet the following night (Saturday). Many people treat the Pegasus banquet as a semi-formal (or even formal) occasion, and it affords you the chance to see many filkers in their most elegant finery. Others come dressed in dungarees and sneakers. There is no dress code enforced or suggested.
Though children are allowed at the banquet, a free pizza party is held for them opposite the banquet, allowing parents to enjoy the banquet without the expense of purchasing the banquet tickets for their progeny.
The Pegasus Awards Banquet is not included in the price of OVFF membership. Banquet tickets must be purchased either in advance with pre-registration (see the Membership page), or at the door. There are a limited number of seats at the banquet, and tickets are sold on a first-come/first-serve basis, so it's a good idea to get your tickets early.
Special Diets / Allergies
If you are on a restricted diet, have food allergies, or any other special
dietary needs, please contact us before September 30 at banquet at ovff dot org.
We will do our best to accomodate you.
InterFilk Auction
Every year, Interfilk holds a silent auction of items donated by people within the Filk community in support of Interfilk. Items that have had a lot of bidding activity, along with special items withheld from the silent auction, are then offered for bid in a voice auction on Saturday evening.
It is difficult to describe the Interfilk voice auction at OVFF; for one, where do you start? With the Interfilk Wenches? With the chocolate (there's always chocolate)? With the one-of-a-kind items offered at this event, and this event only? With the running jokes?
If you've never been to an Interfilk voice auction at OVFF, you should attend, even if you're not intending to bid on anything (though it is for a very good cause), as it is a unique experience. Even if you have attended previous Interfilk voice auctions at OVFF, you should attend this one as well, as it's always different, and you don't want to miss out on any of the fun.
Dead Dog Dinner Trek
On Sunday afternoon/evening, after the convention is officially
over, many convention attendees head off, en-mass, to a local restaurant
for one last meal with the friends that they only see at these conventions
(including those that they just met). For the last several years, we've gone to BD's, which is the best Mongolian barbeque in the world.
It has become the traditional annual post-con dining experience for OVFF.
There will be a sign-up sheet for those who wish to make this pilgrimage. If you think you might want to attend, please sign up by Saturday late afternoon so that we can give the restaurant fair warning of the size of the horde about to descend on them.
After dinner, you may return to the convention hotel for the Dead Dog Filk!
