Lloyd Landa began playing the piano at the age of three and also began performing in public at that young age.  He always heard melodies in his head, music that no one had ever heard before.  As he grew older these melodies began turning into songs and in some cases semi-classical instrumental music.  Lloyd loved many genres of music including jazz, folk, pop and country, and co-wrote country chart hit Somebody Else's Heart with soul mate Karen Linsley.

Lloyd was a fan of Star Trek, and after attending his first Star Trek convention, filk was added to his list of musical genres.  Filk became an important part of his life, it was a new home where creativity was respected, much more so than in the commercial music business.  And along the way he made treasured friendships.  As he grew within the filk community, he embraced science-fiction in general, becoming a fan of Larry Niven, Poul Anderson, alternative history writer Harry Turtledove, and many sci-fi TV shows including Babylon 5, the inspiration for I Am Stardust.

As a performer, Lloyd was best known for his amazing piano technique and upside down and backwards guitar style. As a person, he was always warm and welcoming to new people who found the same filk community as he did.

One of the proudest moments of his life was being the co-receiver with Karen Linsley, of a Pegasus award for the song The Road to Roswell.  Another cherished dream was to win the contest to write an anthem for the Mars Society.  The co-write Pioneers of Mars did in fact place first in the competition, but too late.

Lloyd Landa passed away on August 2, 2000, 12 days before the conference at which the winners were announced.  While Lloyd is gone, the music remains, embraced by the filk community which meant so much to him.  People die.  However, their souls live on through their music.

Keep listening.
