Nathan Allan Bucklin was born on August 11, 1949, in Baltimore. For his 8th birthday, with him being a "foreign service brat" living in Rio de Janeiro, he was given a guitar and made rapid progress. A year and a half later, now living in Rosario, Argentina, and specializing in Argentina's folk guitar styles, he began playing variety shows, sitting in regularly at the Club Martin Fierro (a social club whose members were folksingers) and even doing one concert intermission (February 7, 1959) doing primarily his own Spanish language originals. Back in the States, he discovered science fiction fandom in late 1962, and ultimately attended Worldcons in 1964, '66, '69, '72, '73, '74, '78 (etc.) He was a founding member of the Minnesota Science Fiction Society, Inc., and was the musician guest of honor (possibly the first time that any fan at any con anywhere was given this award) at the 1980 Minicon. Nate has also been a musical, filk, or even "fan" guest of honor at another half dozen conventions, including one Contata where he shared the role with his wife Louie. His short fiction has appeared in Weird Tales, Tales of the Unanticipated, and the Liavek shared-world series. He has also done extensive guitar teaching. He lives in south Minneapolis with his wife, the former Louie Spooner, and stepson James Trainor, and works as a medical transcriptionist and "weekend bar band" musician. |
