(So, there was this band called Toyboat. And three of their members decided to play out on their own a bit. Thus, Three-Fifths was born. But alas, no one could remember their name... so they decided to become Random Fractions. -Editor) Daniel "gundo" Gunderson, Cathy McManamon, and Jason Neerenberg have been making music for many years, each solo and in a variety of groups. Jason started creating bass lines for Cathy’s songs in early 2013, and gundo joined them at Musecon later that year to form the dynamic trio. They generally take Cathy’s original songs, add Jason’s solid bass and vocal harmony, mix in any instrument gundo is allowed to play on stage (mostly keyboards or a variety of guitars and mandolins, but you never know), add a dash of filk/folk/rock covers, shake it all up a bit, and have far more fun than may be legally permitted...in fact, they tend to have a “Post-Concert Buzz” after just one song! They have been known to add in – at “random” – another musician or two to keep things unpredictable. Random Fractions has played at cons, in basements and living rooms (possibly yours!), bars, parks, and outdoor festivals all over North America. All three of them are in demand as guest musicians for other performers, individually or collectively, and when they aren’t playing individually or as a trio they join fellow miscreants Mike Nixon and David Stowell to make up the Pegasus-nominated band Toyboat. Random Fractions has two CDs – “The Fire Inside” (2014, released under Cathy’s name) and “Random Fractions” (2017). www.facebook.com/randomfractions |
