Eric Distad has been obsessed with music for as long as he can remember. He has done everything from musical theater to barbershop quartets, played in bands with styles ranging from country to folk-punk, written pieces ranging from medieval chant to modern prog-rock, eaten foods ranging from peanut butter to jelly. Yep, it's been a full life so far.
Eric was introduced into filk by friends made through FAWM (February Album Writing Month) who pulled him along to a filk circle, telling him there were folks who might like his geeky songs inspired by Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. He didn't quite believe them but went anyway - and boy, was he wrong! (This "being wrong" thing happens fairly often, actually.)
He is one half of the Acoustic Geek-Rock Filk Duo - The Faithful Sidekicks along with his wife and co-conspirator Jen. Since 2014, they have been writing and performing (mostly) comedic songs about the nerdy things they love at sci-fi cons and venues around the US, Canada and even Germany!
He's also a founding member of FAWM (February Album Writing Month) where, since 2004, he's written an awful lot of songs and amassed a sizable back catalog - a few of which he might even still remember. He lives in Oregon City, Oregon with Jen, two cats and an ever growing collection of instruments. By day he's an IT Admin and by night he is an avid board gamer, baker of many breads, and moderate failure at resisting the call of music gear.

Moment by moment
Measure by measure
Assessing each breath
Count each endeavor
Where others are running
Our triumph is to stand
Each breath is underwater
and a struggle not to drown
Where they are floating forward
You have weights pulling down
Struggle through each wave
And try to remember land
Spend each precious drop of life
One spoonful at time
(Chorus)
You can't dance your life away
to someone else's tunes
At the end of the day
you only have so many spoons
You can't keep running in the air
like a coyote in cartoons
At the end of the day
you only have so many spoons
Take the air for granted
Till you only have the smoke
Take the fall for funny
Till you're not in on the joke
Take time by the handful
Feel each grain of sand
They don't need to hoard their pennies
'Cause they've never been poor
No yearning for a goal line
When they're not keeping score
Don't wish to be like them
Just wish they'd understand
Spend each precious drop of life
One spoonful at time
CHORUS
You only have so long
Before the well runs dry
You only have so much to give
You can't make a path
From a map that is a lie
There is so much more to life
than just to live
CHORUS
